Part of this trip was to record nature sounds to use on the next CD, “Spirit Call”. Also to write off the trip as a business expense.

I’ve been taking a road trip in Colorado and New Mexico, and have brought a portable digital recorder to make “field recordings” of nature sounds. I’ve gotten some pretty interesting sounds, including a coyote howling and barking, and it’s sound echoing back from a nearby mountain.
Tonight I spent some time getting to a remote spot to record night desert sounds in the Taos, NM area. After driving a while to a remote area late at night, I finally find a spot where you can’t hear any highway traffic, and the battery goes dead! So, out again tomorrow night with a new battery. Ugh!
The night cricket sounds in a desert are totally different from the kind you hear elsewhere. They are constant, not pulsing in rhythm like normal forest type crickets. They sound eerie, haunting, and quite enchanting to sleep by. I’ve got to get these sounds on “tape”.
The purpose of all these nature recordings is to incorporate them into some of the tracks of my next CD, “Spirit Call”.
