Never say Never. I’m Musing on a new Recording
After making “Melodia”, I thought I was going to have to be hospitalized, or at least checked in for some electro-shock therapy. This CD cut a lot of new ground for me. I wrote, orchestrated, produced, and performed all the music. Plus I’m a perfectionist, so I drove myself crazy for 2 years. Actually, writing the music was fun! But when it was over, I said “Never again”. I lied.
My latest conception will also be new. It will be solo violin only, “a capella”, with no accompanying ensemble.
The concept for the CD will be similar to listening to Native American flute music. Over the last 15-18 years, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to native american flutists (or is that “flautist”? You flautists…errr, flute players, clue me in.) My favorite is Carlos Nakai, whose CD recordings have entranced me for years. I heard a CD of his for the first time playing in a store in Durango, CO, where I was staying one summer while playing at the “Music in the Mountains” classical music festival at Purgatory Ski Resort.
Now, I’m sure as I work on this recording, a lot of my style will morph into things other than this style, but the mood will be hypnotic, meditative, and relaxing. That is my goal, anyway.
I am looking to use portable equipment to record myself in some inspiring setting. Maybe a large church, cathedral, or I might just hop out to New Mexico (Taos area) and record it out there where I will have plenty of inspiration!
If you have any recommendations for an inspiring place to play and record, let me know!
